Thought Pollution

We are aware of noise, water and air pollution. There is also thought pollution on this earth.

Thought pollution is defined as contamination of inner peace by negative thoughts.

Thinking is an important tool for human beings. We think, so we can solve our problems. When we start creating problems in our head, thoughts become problems.

Our thoughts have frequencies to attract similar thoughts. E.g. when we think inspiring thoughts, our next thoughts will also be inspiring, unless this frequency gets interrupted by a different thought e.g. an insult by your boss.

Once our thought gets contaminated by a negative thought, similar thoughts will get attracted.
When we fall asleep, we do not think. Our brains are working but we do not think. If we sleep for 7-8 hours, we wake up refreshed. This is the best time to think positive thoughts because we get to start a new string of thoughts.

Start your day with appreciation for life. You will think similar thoughts throughout your day.
When this string gets interrupted by an outside negative thought, start appreciating again. Appreciation is the best way to keep the mind clear of negative thinking.

This is not a onetime process. Just as we clean our bodies every day, we must clean our minds every day.

A dusty piece of jewelry is still jewelry. Crumbled money does not lose its value, we simply straighten it out. It is the same with mind. When our minds are clean and clear, we can see its beauty. We become aware of its magnificence.

We can change our thought patterns by shifting to one powerful thought. It can be from within e.g. a positive self-talk or from outside e.g. a compliment from a friend. You do not want to be dependent on outside force. To shift your thought, practice going within. You are not limiting yourself but tapping into an infinite force. By going within, you are approaching the whole Universe.

This newsletter is intended to start a positive thought string in the morning. I hope your every day is filled with laughter and joy.

Remember: only when clouds disappear, we can see the beautiful stars :-)

Body is Connected

Have you heard of the expression, “body has mind of its own?” It’s very true.

Our bodies are connected to the Universe. We never have to take care of our bodies because our bodies take care of us. Our noses breathe for us, our hearts beat for us, our stomach digest or store food us. If our bodies did not signal us when to go to the bathroom, we would be in a big trouble. Imagine if we have to pay attention to these important details, how busy we would get.  Thanks to our magnificent bodies, everything is well taken care of. Thank you beautiful bodies.

You do not have to do much to appreciate your bodies. Just keep it clean, provide it with energy from fresh vegetables, whole grains, some meat and tons of fruits. Our bodies work best on unprocessed food. Unprocessed food comes from the Universe and body can recognize and digest it easily.

Our bodies are always in the present moment. Our minds, however, transport to past and future any time. Mind seldom stays in the present. Disconnect occurs when our minds are in the past or future for too long while our bodies remain in the present. Every cell in our bodies hears and responds to our thoughts. When we have too many fearful and angry thoughts they do everything they can to protect us. For example, if you feel fearful, your body will burn fewer calories to save energy for the uncertain future. When you are not thinking about uncertainty of future, your body will stay in the present and burn energy as needed. This is why stress can make you gain weight. Bodies are so amazing. They don’t just get anxious; they do what they can in the PRESENT moment to make you feel secure. They take actions. There is so much we can learn from them.

Staying in the present moment is the best way to keep your bodies connected to the Universe.
Meditation and yoga connects your body and mind.

Complain less and appreciate more
Eat only enough and love more than enough
Stress less and play more
Talk less and listen more

Your bodies enable you to enjoy this beautiful earthly life. Do not take it for granted. Love it back because it loves you more than anyone else can ever love you.

Affirmations for Forgiveness

*************************************************************************
“A team at the University of Pisa in Italy asked people to imagine forgiving someone and then observed changes in cerebral blood flow, which signaled the parts of the brain that became more active. They found that several regions "lit up," especially areas that regulate emotional responses, moral judgments, perceptions of physical pain, and decision making. By creating this kind of neural map, researcher   s hope to learn more about how forgiveness works on both a physical and a psychological level.

Time

I live in New York City. This is the city where everyone is always in rush. Escalators always have one side for those New Yorkers who would rather walk on them. I think this is a great example of how much rush we are always in.

Isn’t it ironic that we complain that we do not have time but time is always endless? Time is always there, it outlives us – every time and every one of us. Then why are we always complaining that we don’t have enough of it.

I believe that not having enough time is just an illusion. Everybody has enough time otherwise they wouldn’t be doing what they are doing.

I know many people who book tickets to go home when they hear that their parents or loved one is on the last stage but the same people would cancel the ticket when they hear that nobody is dying just yet. We want to rush when there is no time just to complain that there was not enough time.
The above example is extreme but it is indeed often the case.

I know that we all have important things to do, such as job, raising kids, doing laundry, and the list goes on but there isn’t enough time to accomplish all of it. On top of all this we need enough time to sleep, relax and socialize.

How can we cope with all this?

I think we should start really small, but not on time, on the way we feel when we think there isn’t enough time. For example, when you are walking very fast, in a rush, and all of a sudden somebody starts walking very slowly in front of you, instead of getting upset, start walking slow. I understand the need to rush to work but when you are coming home do not rush. Walk slowly. When you are standing in lunch line, don’t look at your watch; just enjoy the stillness for a few seconds. When your train is late or traffic is stuck, just quiet your mind.

One day I was having a conversation with one of my friend who was going through some difficult time and I suggested that there is a great article in Oprah magazine about this situation. My friend responded that she wished she had enough time to read magazines.

The more time you take out to read the more time you save from dealing with difficult situations. You are never alone or the first one to experience a problem. Human race has been here for centuries and there is something written for everything. Start reading solutions instead of repeating your complaints.

Tomorrow sleep 5 minutes early and wake up 5 minutes early so you have 5 extra minutes to spend. In this 5 minutes do something you love – a dance, sing a song, watch the roof or leave early for work.

You should never have to take time to enjoy. We may not be able to stretch time but we can enjoy ourselves every time. Every moment of your life is to enjoy, this is not a task, this is life. The purpose of your life is to enjoy every moment and NOT rush every moment.

Being Positive or Being Realistic?

I often receive remarks that I am too positive. As much as I would like to take it as a compliment, I know happy people can be annoying to people who are not so happy.
So am I really a positive person? The answer is yes because I have found out that this is the only realistic way to live a peaceful life.

We go through the day with too much drama and baggage. This person did not do this or he or she did this to me. He is so mean. She is a bitch. Customer service at some store sucks. Trains are too late.

I understand things happen and we feel aggravated. It is normal. What’s not normal is to stay stuck in negative emotions. We must move on after every experience. Life is ever changing, nothing is steady. When you stay stuck, you stink - like stagnated water. Only flowing water tastes good.

Let’s say you made a mistake in your exam or at your work. Now you can either fix it or keep feeling negative about what just happened. I know that you cannot fix your mistake in the exam, but you can learn from it. You can try to understand what went wrong and fix it to get a better score in your final. If you choose to be sad about the mistake you made but never really move on to study harder, you are not a happy person. But if you said, “I am going to get it right next time” then you are one happy camper – a positive person.

If you know that your colleague made a mistake on something obvious then you can either humiliate him or her or just try to correct the error, really find the solution. If you keep blaming him or her you will only add insult to injury, nothing else. He or she will feel miserable. You will burn your blood and what else, oh yes, get some wrinkles due to the frowns; let’s hope it’s not increased blood pressure due to the stress.

If you decided not to stay happy or have hope for the future, what do you gain? Nothing. You will keep feeling miserable and will not enjoy what you have in front of you. You might miss the easy solutions. You will keep frowning and become very wrinkly ;) Your body cells will feel resentment and your face might become crooked. Your body will produce stress hormone (Cortisole) which will bring stubborn fat in your belly.

The alternative is to be realistic. Acknowledge what happened is gone and there is nothing, by nothing I mean absolutely nothing that can be done to fix the past. If you keep dwelling on the past you are being unrealistic.

Being realistic is to have some hope. Know that past is over and gone and so has its power. You have the power of NOW. Start changing things now ,before it becomes past. And what will that bring? Hmm… it will bring you solutions to so called problems, beautiful face, more creativity, longer healthy life, peace in your mind.

As my philosophy goes, feel the negative emotions but don't stay stuck in them. As a human being you will go through anger, guilt, sadness, depression etc. Key is to understand that these emotions are your guidelines to know that you must change the course of your actions. If something makes you sad, simply stop doing that.

In a nutshell, there is no other way to live a peaceful life than being positive. If we keep thinking about past (or even future) and be miserable, we will stay miserable because past cannot be changed; there are no time machines so far. If we change our perspective to positive, no matter what the situation is we will be peaceful, calm and happy.

Don’t be too harsh on yourself no matter what. If you miss a train today, affirm that next train is coming soon. If you catch the train, affirm that you will get a seat soon.

Be positive, it’s the only way to be realistic.
